LYRICS TO THE SONGS OF SCRIMSHAW

Words & Music by Marlin Collins

1. AFTER THOUGHT

The burden's ours until the clocks run out of all their, precious time.

While the cure to the working man's back lies near, the end of the line.

With a sigh and a question why we so fear, the ends of our lives.

Bundled up in all our careless dreams we do fly, into the sky.

But to the world nothing more than a firefly, flickering by.

Flickering by (3 times )

Mustn't cry (3 times )

Better we hide all our sorrow,

Better not let it show through,

Better not trust in tomorrow,

To fill up the space left by you.

Oh by you,

I sense it in the summer,

I feel it in the fall,

I miss you most of all,

I miss you most of all.

2. THE SECOND COMING

Alone with you, I plunge to the sea.

Alone with you, a deep blue rise in the storm.

Alone with you, I touch of your face in my dreams.

Alone with you, your hand on my soul.

Where will I go

Without you to take me in hand,

And tell me of things,

That I had not known,

Or I'd have done better. (3 times )

Alone with you the sky comes to me.

The edge of the sea.

With only the sun and me.

Who cares if it's free. (3 times )

Where will I go

Without you to take me in hand,

And tell me of things,

That I had not known,

Or I'd have done better. (5 times )

3. THE NEIGHBOR

Why must we realize, things that are known.

If it's convenient, they will be shown.

All situations, are handled with time.

Seems we must always, come from behind.

For the weak in the mind, don't know where they stand.

I have no patience, with a man that will act.

Like he is a friend, then stab at your back.

And curse at your mother, for giving you life.

Until there is nothing, left but the knife

Defending your life, is not a sin.

Can't he ever see,

I'm a man flesh and blood is me.

In a land,

That we both call home.

Understand,

He is not alone,

In this world.

Be right, both of us thinking how good it would be.

To be right, so much time spent thinking.

Why fight, I know he's got nothing better to do.

Than fight, so much time wasted fighting.

Fighting (3 times )

I've got a message, to give to the man.

Who lives next door to, a rock and roll fan.

If he can't see his, way clear to breath.

The same air I do, then he may leave.

And shove his beliefs, up his family tree.

4. CHARISSE

Oh what a gorgeous lady, with her golden hair.

Reaching down past her shoulders, along skin so fair.

Walking down by the river, oh I wish I knew,

If I had the chance to hold her, what else could I do?

If I had the chance to hold her, all my dreams come true.

A lady like this is so rare, and worth talking to.

A river runs free and easy, till it splashes down.

Like the feelings that start to seize me, when you're around.

The dark clouds have all passed over, and the sun is out.

How I would like to know just, what she's all about.

Walking across an old bridge, to the other side.

Should I confess my feelings, or just let them ride.

Should I confess my feelings, that I hate to hide,

Or risk being somewhat forward, and in her confide

A river runs free and easy, till it rushes down.

Like the feelings that always please me, when you're around.

The times that I always hoped for, seemed to never come.

Myself I still consider, luckier than some.

Parked along side the river, thinking of a friend,

Who in her own way told me, how to live again.

Who in her own way showed me, this is not the end.

Beholding her kind of beauty, my torn heart could mend.

A river runs free and easy, till it plunges down.

Like the feelings that start to seize me, when you're around.

A river runs free and easy, till it plunges down.

Like the feelings that always please me, when you're around.

I say thank-you, I say it with all my heart I do, I say thank-you.

Thank-you.

5. THE MARRY ME SONG

An angel's loving you, and oh sweet gal me too.

Well I was born in 52 a marine's only son.

Kissin' wives all over town, and hittin' everyone.

He told my mom they're through, in 1962.

Well I told lies and heaven knows, my mother worked real hard.

To keep me wise a straight path goes, with footsteps it ain't marred.

Drugs in my bloodstream, don't know what they mean.

Now it seems so long ago, that I took me a wife.

Worked out for a couple years, instead of my whole life.

She told me we were through, in 1972.

Not too long after that, I settled down again.

With a controversial bride, my very next of kin.

By marriage as it were, she was just my stepsister.

Well that one lasted eight long years, but there's something you should know.

From those three kids I do swear, I sure did hate to go.

She told me we were through, in 1982.

It's going on a couple years, since you've been my best friend.

There's nothing in my life as dear, this love ain't gonna end.

How can I be sure, does a kitten purr?

Now I'd like to propose, that you become my wife.

And I'll become your husband too, and live with you for life.

Will you marry me, and become number three?

And become number three?

6. CLIFFS AND LEDGES

I went to work on the outside,

Leaving the inside undone.

And eventually the inside was hopeless,

But the outside was lots of fun.

And what's more, I've been broken.

And what's more, I've been broken.

Broken.

Well if that is so,

What is there left of me,

I don't know.

In hot pursuit of life and liberty,

That's known as free.

Bring forth the edge,

To sustain my fears,

Of cliffs and ledge,

Of cliffs and ledges.

And what's more, I've been broken.

And what's more, I've been broken.

Broken.

7. INFINITE SACRIFICE

Hoping for the years, to stop this heart from aching.

Drying all the tears, the handkerchiefs are soaked.

Hiding all the fears, knowing my life is changing,

Without three cheers.

How can we be one, how can we be one,

With our peers?

Praying for the Lord, to make the burdens lighter.

A two edge sword, His Word's my daily guide.

I can't afford, to go another day with,

Money that I hoard.

How can we be one, how can we be one,

With our Lord? (2 times )

Jesus makes our hearts enlarge, He'll smother us with love.

Wet our thirsty appetites with, blessings from above.

Submit your will to Him, experience new birth.

And we'll look forward to, leaving the earth.

He's stopped this heart from aching.

Dried all the tears, the handkerchiefs are gone.

Hidden all the fears, knowing my life has changed and

Without three cheers

How can we be one, how can we be one,

How can we be one, how can we be one,

With our peers? (3 times )

8. A PLACE IN YESTERDAY

Shimmering sun light, glistening tree tops, warm summer breeze.

Fields of clover, small buttercups, I'm wondering why.

Take it all away, but its place, in yesterday.

One tiny blossom, floats in the breeze, colored memories.

Waiting for autumn, good-bye summer breeze, good-bye forever.

Take it all away, but its place, in yesterday.

La-La-La-La-La Voice Solo

Take it all away, but its place, in yesterday.

9. WESLEY'S SONG

Why'd she ask for reasons, I can't give her any more

Can't give her any more, why can't she see, it's all too painfully

To be a joke played on my son

He never tried to hurt anyone.

He's been laughing at noses,

And flowers blooming outside.

He's been laughing away,

All the times that we cried.

Woe, Woe, Woe, Woe...

Do we question God's will, or take responsibility

For what will be, in our lives, uncertainty, it all comes out the

same.

Who cares who's to blame

When the hurt reaches out across the pain.

We can take him to water,

But we can't make him swim.

What we've given our daughter,

We can never give him.

Woe, Woe, Woe, Woe...

Oh Wesley your trials drop on me like a bomb

Yes my son you'll miss none of the fun if I can help

No-No-No-No Voice Solo

We can take him to water,

But we can't make him swim.

What we've given our daughter,

We can never give him.

Woe, Woe, Woe, Woe...

10. THE REASON FOR WAITING IS GOOD-BYE

The reason for waiting is good-bye.

With no anticipating, starry skies.

Your love has not been true, oh no never.

So I'm just waiting, just waiting, wondering why.

The tears should be receding and turning dry.

No bandage can stop the bleeding, of the eye.

My cries have not been heard, oh no never.

But I'm just waiting, just waiting, wondering why.

My head it is a spinning and my mouth is dry.

Without your gentle ways, I'll surely die.

You left me all alone, and I shall suffer.

While I'm just waiting, just waiting, wondering why.

Just waiting, just waiting, wondering why.

Oh just waiting, oh just waiting, wondering why.

11. AT HOME

Need a little loving when you're home,

Need a little loving as a reason not to roam.

Feel a little coldness in the room,

Feel a little coldness and I know that we are doomed.

I said I'm going away, oh there's no reason to stay

I said I'm wasting my time at home.

Heard a lot of preaching in your ear.

Heard a lot of preaching and it brought you to some fear.

Won't remember things I said,

Can't remember things that went right through your head.

I said I'm going away, oh there's no reason to stay

I said I'm wasting my time at home.

Must of been some rock-n-roll,

Must of been some precious time you thought I stole.

Couldn't be the songs I wrote

Couldn't be the work it took with every note.

I said I'm going away, oh there's no reason to stay

I said I'm wasting my time at home.

Need some reasons for this guy,

Need some reasons that will make me start to cry.

What about the children's pain,

What about our lives will never be the same.

I said I'm going away, oh there's no reason to stay

I said I'm wasting my time at home.

But you know I'll be all right.

Don't you know I'm glad to be done with this fight.

I'll escape this misery,

I'll escape and then I'll pay the lawyers fee.

I said I'm going away, oh there's no reason to stay

I said I'm wasting my time at home.
